I built my own Internet firewall using OpenBSD, famous for its security. escalus now manages my firewall, routing, DHCP, and DNS for my home network. I wanted the experience of building these services myself and to see what OpenBSD was like, but I also wanted the additional flexibility of being able to run utilities on my firewall for testing my Internet connection which can be slow at times. Besides routing between the Internet, the wired lab network, and the wireless network, escalus also has an old 10BASE2 NIC for networking my DOS machines.
